Tuffsill is a timber tread sill replacement product made from high impact polystyrene. It is extruded using a compound include regrind and finished with a wood style foil. Despite being a plastic based product the use of regrind (crushed and reground recycled plastic) gives it some environmental credentials – although this was not a focus for the campaign.

The product had many properties that made it superior to standard wood sills, which were that it did not rot and was insect resistant. These, and many other, points were put forward in a simple DL leaflet and also in adverts in the trade press.

The name and logo design were created and symbolised the tough and durable nature of the product and the fact that it could withstand a lot of wear and tear.
